Customizing Standard Cabinetry: Thinking Outside the Box(es)
Everybody loves the look of custom cabinetry. But, unless you’re a big commercial firm designing a project with thousands of dollars worth of custom millwork, it may be impossible for you to get your hands on. Most big shops have the equipment, process, and expertise to custom build anything and do a beautiful job; but most of them aren’t set up to work with private, residential clients.
Every once in a while, standard cabinetry will wind up fitting perfectly, but that’s rare. So, what do you when your design screams for custom millwork and standard pieces don’t solve your problem? “Doing more with less,” “having it your way,” and “multi-function” have been the cries of consumers for some time now.
Well, here’s the good news: technology, and the changing needs of today’s families have prompted makers of production cabinetry. They’re adding more parts, pieces, and options to their lines. Those embellishments have, in turn, inspired us to take their “boxes” and configure them in creative ways. They’ve helped us to integrate more function in small spaces. They’ve multiplied functionality. And they can really elevate the way a room lives. Look what happens when you think outside the standard box!
